Media Spirits

Once upon a time, Kitchen Witches were a common sight in most homes. They were said to bring good fortune, end pots boiling over or burning, and generally make your kitchen a happy, healthy, warm, welcoming place.

I felt it was time to update the protective magic for the home. Thus were created the "Media Spirits". These spirits are designed to keep your entertainment running smoothly. Hang one by your home entertainment unit, your stereo, your TV or, for those of you with more low tech entertainment taste, your favourite bookshelf. The Media Spirit will keep your tech running smoothly, help your radio tune in better, make sure your DVDs don't skip, and guide your hand to the book you want to read.

Each Media Spirit is made using items that would otherwise have been garbage (the wings are broken DVDs and the pictures are from packaging inserts bound for the trash). Occasionally, I will use the same picture more than once if it is available to me, but as each Spirit is made by hand, each is unique. Some may be similar, but no two will be exactly alike.

Diana
The lovely and talented Diana Rigg, star of stage and screen, graces this Media Spirit. Yes, that is a spiked collar. Why do you ask?

Sparkle
I'm not so sure about vampires that sparkle. But I thought I'd take a stab at the idea.

Laird
Laird Cregar was a supremely talented actor in the 1940s. Cast mostly as the villain, he died after a crash diet which he hoped would lead to romantic leading roles. If you have never seen his amazing turn in "The Lodger", I recommend it. His career spanned only five years, but it was quality work.

Buster
Buster Keaton is, undeniably, the king of deadpan. He's also one of those rare creatures; an actor who successfully made the leap from silent films to talkies. His performance in "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum" has always held a special place in my heart.
