I've been making lovely and strange new things. New photos will be arriving soon. I have an octopus army. They are so cute, I'm having a hard time with it. I've always felt I don't do cute. But they really are cute. In a cephalopod kind of way. So, squishy-cute. Cutethulu. That sort of thing.
I'm currently waiting to hear back from Worldcon in Spokane, to see if I got into the art show. I'm going to the convention either way, but it's always nice to get a little extra exposure as well.
And have you seen this new frog they discovered in Costa Rica? The Kermit frog? Amazing, and so cute. I think I have to go sculpt frogs now. In ten days, I'll be at VCON in Surrey, BC. VCON is the longest running science fiction convention in the Greater Vancouver area, and it's something I've been going to since I was a kid. I've always felt at home there, so I am very grateful that I can show my work in their art show. If you're interested, you should check out the website at www.vcon.ca
I just got a chance to watch the first of the Peter Capaldi series of Doctor Who, and I have to say, I definitely enjoyed it. I think this is going to be a good Doctor. Unlike a lot of people I know, I was not a huge fan of Matt Smith. He had some good moments, but I mostly watched his run for the Ponds, and River Song. (No spoilers!) This new Doctor looks to be snarky and mad, and I've kind of missed that. My first Doctor was Sylvester McCoy, who was snarky, mad, and Scottish, so this kind of feels like going home.
I've been in Europe for the last two weeks. The excuse was London Worldcon (LonCon). But I did a bunch of touristy things too. Because London. Welcome to anyone who has come to the site because they saw my table at LonCon. If they aren't here yet, the pieces that didn't sell at the convention will be up shortly.
I now have a Twitter feed. Anyone interested in getting updates when I update the site can follow @espressostoat. I don't tweet often, so you won't have to worry about me taking up a lot of room on your feed.
I'm sure a lot of you will understand this feeling. You get an idea. You love the way it looks in your head. It's perfect, and you're excited to create it. But when you've finished it, in whatever media you're working with, it's just not quite right. So, it's a huge thrill when that picture in your head actually ends up being what you see when you look at the finished product. I think I've had that happen twice in my entire life. "My Caged Heart", on the Geeky page, is one of them.  So, I'll be at Worldcon in London in August. And I'm bringing my art. I'm a little thrilled to be in the Loncon Artist Showcase. After a bit of struggling with the new camera, I've been able to convince it to take pictures of the knitting. Two pairs of wristlets are now available for perusal and purchase. They are lovely and soft, and the colours really sparkle. The photos don't do the colours justice. I use Patons Silk Bamboo yarn, for the soft comfyness and for the sustainability of the bamboo. I'm a big fan of bamboo.
